Ceremonially unclean creatures (Lev. 11:29) for faithful Hebrews, but allegedly eaten by idolaters (Isa. 66:17), who will suffer the consequences. Golden mice were placed in the Ark [[➝ ark]] by the Philistines (1 Sam. 6) to symbolize the plague [[➝ plagues]] which was afflicting them. The hope was that, if they were carried back to Israel, the plague would cease.
